User research

Goals:

Develop e-commerce a mobile app first and then a website that sells stimulating and engaging toys which encourages creativity and development in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM).

 

Sub – Goals:

To develop an excellent e-commerce mobile app for selling educational toys of high quality that yields maximum profit and customer satisfaction.

 

   Design

  • A mobile design must be a functional, streamlined and well-designed website and easy to use.

   Marketing

  • The app should be integrated with social media websites to promote sales and help in marketing the products.

  • Position the platform as a leader in the field of educational toys by selling a different and most significant quantity of product to the consumer with different IQ level.

 

Objectives:

   Content

  • The app content placement must be optimized to customer behavior such as navigation toolbar and search option.

  • Every toy must have its product description emphasizing on its 3 to 5 unique selling points to support the customer to effectively and efficiently make intelligent decisions.

  • Each product page must contain the specifications, manufacturer’s warranty info, seller’s guarantee, return & refund policy, shipping information, ways to pay for the orders and safety/handling precautions/measures.

  • Product description page should display 10-15 sec short interactive videos which give information about how to use the toy.

  • The app should have an FAQ page to answers customers question about cancellation and refund, return policies.

   

   Design

  • Toys must be presented with professional quality photos which must have the following specifications-

  • Image size for displayed toys should be 150px by 150px, with a pixel density of 72 PPi to increase the loading speed.

  • Some photos must show kids playing with the toys happily on the landing page and product detail pages.

   Facilitate tasks

  • The app should be easy to navigate the pages such as Home, Contact us,  About US, Account information, etc.

  • On the home page, the user should be able to search for toys using categories such as

  1. Early learning

  2. Building sets

  3. Active play

  4. Books and brain teasers

  5. Science and nature

  6. History and geography

  7. Hand-on Puzzles

  • The landing page must have a quick toy search feature which includes age, gender, and minimum price.

  • The user should be able to sort and filter the displayed results page, using options such as popularity, rating, price, gender, age & brands.

  • The user can rate the toy with a rating scale with values 5 (Best) to 1 (Poor).

  • Customer must be able to write a review for the purchased toys.

  • The user must be able to see the reviews of the products.

  • The app should offer an interface for a one-click live chat with customer service on every page.

  • Live chat must be integrated for customer support which must work 24 x 7.

  • The app must offer multiple options for shipping the purchased products; there should be three different options for shipping: next day, 2 -3 days and 5 -7 days.

  • The app should offer payment mechanism to allow users to make a purchase such as Credit card, Debit card, PayPal and must be able to process the credit card transactions through a secure payment gateway.

  • The app should display a receipt after the purchase is made and should be able to print the receipt and send a copy to specified email addresses.

  • The app should have the following features for purchasing the product-

  • When the customer has decided to buy the product, they must be able to place the order with 1 or 2 clicks/steps to ensure a high conversion rate.

  • For effective customer retention and efficient shopping experience, the customer must be encouraged to sign up at the time of their first checkout process. When customer shops for the next time, then they should not have any extra task which could have been avoided, such as entering Name, Address, etc.

  • The user should be able to remove/delete unwanted items from the cart.

  • The cart should display the estimated cost of selected items, including shipping cost.

  • The cart should have an option to add a zip code to estimate the shipping cost.

Marketing

  • The app should sell learning apps built by the 3rd party.

  • Provide students/teacher discount deals to encourage and motivate people in educational fields to buy toys from our site and increase sales to maximize profits.

  • The homepage of The app should be able to display bestselling and most popular toys and some link for special offers and coupons.

  • Customers must be able to subscribe to an email list to receive discounts.

  • Market Research must be done with similar sites such as Educational Toys Section of Amazon.com.

  • The app should be able to store user’s billing and payment information for future use.

 

Policies:

  • It must have a secure payment system with an SSL certificate.

  • If the customer purchases a product on Smart Toys app and if the product is defective and the manufacturer’s published warranty covers it, Smart Toys must refund the cost or replace the product.

  • All the toys available on Smart Toys website must follow the safety standards for the respective age groups.

  • Protection of financial and personal customer information must be essential aspects of business for Smart Toys. Information must be secure, and it must never be sold or shared with anyone
